Where India's institutes are projected to stand in 2026
A band-wise projection of the NIRF 2026 rankings across four disciplines, built on seven years of official scores. We report the tier an institute is heading for, the marks it takes to get there, and how firm each call is — not a false-precision rank.

What the model is blind to
3 new-entrant slots. A few first-time institutes with no track record enter each year — those slots are flagged as reserve, not predicted.
The top of the table drifts up faster than a steady trend follows, so the Top-10 entry mark reads a little low.
The middle bands turn over most — trust the tier, not a precise position within it.
How to read this & its limits
• Bands, not seats. Ranking is competitive — a correct score can still miss an exact position if the field around it shifts. We publish the tier and the target marks, because the tier is a far more reliable call than the exact seat.
• New institutes can't be foreseen. A school with no ranking history has nothing to project from; each discipline sees a few genuinely new entrants a year. Those slots are flagged as reserve, not predicted.
• Low-confidence rows are marked. Where a projection leans on old or thin data, it is flagged — treat those as watch-items, not firm calls.
• Method: per-pillar recency-weighted damped trend, overall recomposed via NIRF weights (0.30 TLR + 0.30 RP + 0.20 GO + 0.10 OI + 0.10 PR). A projection, not an official result.
